ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two workers were taken to the hospital on Monday after a hazmat response was triggered by a suspicious substance found in the Federal Medical Center's mailroom—officials said the material was contained and the area declared safe.  WKYT
  • Funeral services for 21-year-old Peyton Hughes, a Campbellsville University student and member of the Tigers Kayak Fishing Team who died in a kayaking accident last week in Hemphill, Texas, will begin with a visitation at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6 at the River of Life Community Church — his family will then hold the service.  LEX 18

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Foodosti launched in Lexington with a $1 delivery fee and a $4 flat rate for drivers — the app already offers services from local restaurant Pie Five Pizza and plans to add more options while recruiting drivers. Anthany Beatty said the app focuses on delivering local meals with competitive pay for drivers.  LEX 18
  • Buffalo Trace Distillery filled its ninth million barrel of bourbon in less than three years after reaching its eighth, showing major growth in Kentucky’s bourbon industry. Officials remain cautious because tariff concerns—raising uncertainty over future trade—may affect production, company leader Jake Wenz said.  LEX 18

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cut Corner Records reopened on September 13 at the historic CD Central space on South Limestone near the University of Kentucky campus after owner Steve Baron retired — the new owners preserved legacy signs and kept the existing staff to serve local music fans.  LEX 18

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • As temperatures cool, the Red River Gorge is drawing more hikers while search and rescue teams urge them to stay on marked trails to avoid danger. On Sunday, teams aided one man stung by a hornet and another who fell and broke his leg — a reminder to plan ahead and pack essential gear.  LEX 18
  • A new Sierra Club report shows that Kentucky utilities are failing to move from fossil fuels—Louisville Gas & Electric, Kentucky Utilities, and East Kentucky Power Co-op fell 15 points on average in their clean energy efforts. Officials and advocates say state leaders must adopt new technologies to lower energy costs for ratepayers.  WUKY

  • Saint Joseph Health announced that Jarrett B. Millsaps Jr. will lead Saint Joseph East in Lexington and Saint Joseph Mount Sterling starting Oct. 20—he brings years of healthcare leadership experience and looks forward to returning to call Lexington home.  The Lane Report
  • Kentucky began disenrolling children from Medicaid after pandemic-era protections ended as the state reassesses eligibility and urges families to complete renewal paperwork to maintain coverage. Health experts warn that funding cuts — along with more paperwork, could force up to 86,000 kids to lose their coverage by next July.  WUKY
