COMMUNITY NEWS

  • VisitLEX launched Pick Up Perks, a program that gives locals and visitors a free cup of drip coffee for picking up litter in parks and neighborhoods. Participants clean up designated areas and then return to a coffee shop for their reward—boosting community pride in Lexington.  The Lane Report
  • Young people in Lexington are working to improve their neighborhoods through the I Got My Block initiative—led by the Voyage Movement—by picking up trash and helping elders; the Robertson brothers cleaned 4th and Ohio on Tuesday morning and earned a small payment from One Lexington while neighbors offered water and lunch.  LEX 18
  • Lexington city officials are asking residents to donate a full, perfectly shaped Christmas tree for display at the fountain. The Parks and Recreation department will remove a 35 to 45 ft Blue Spruce or Norway Spruce at no cost (including stump grinding, raking, and seeding) and asks anyone with one in mind to call Victoria Hamm at 859-288-2937.  WKYT

  • The 2025 Keeneland September Yearling Sale ended on Sept. 20 with 3,070 horses sold for a record $531.5 million, marking a 24% increase over last year’s sales. The auction set new records including a $3.3 million price for a Gun Runner colt — the highest ever in a Thoroughbred auction.  The Lane Report

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Central Ky. soybean farmers face hardship after China’s 20% tariff left the largest buyer with no sales this crop year and farmer Brennan Gilkinson—who farms in Fayette and Clark counties—said difficult weather worsens the challenge while he hopes tariffs will be dropped soon.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 30, the LFUCG planning commission approved a controversial zoning change—officials will review its impact on local planning in upcoming meetings.  WKYT
  • Kentucky has restored $17.8 million in federal EV funds for charging stations after a $32 million commitment was frozen by the previous administration, according to Gov. Andy Beshear’s office. The state will restart work on expanding charging infrastructure+covering major corridors and community areas+to support EV drivers.  WUKY
  • Speed cameras will soon be installed in Kentucky construction zones to slow traffic and protect workers—one installation will start along U.S. 25 in Lexington while others are planned for I-75 and I-64 in the fall. The cameras will not issue tickets automatically—law enforcement will use the collected data to pull over drivers who exceed the speed limit with fines up to $500.  LEX 18
  • Secretary of State Michael Adams announced plans to expand Kentucky’s Safe At Home program to help domestic violence survivors keep their addresses confidential on state records. He said the program—streamlined to remove the need for court protective orders and already serving several hundred people—will soon reach more survivors as enrollment efforts grow.  LEX 18

SPORTS NEWS

  • An 18-year-old Lexington teen broke world and state records at a junior firefighter competition last weekend by finishing a tough obstacle course that included climbing a tower and dragging a heavy dummy. She plans to join the Lexington Fire Department when she turns 19 and hopes her achievement will inspire other young women to work hard.  LEX 18
  • Keeneland announced that Grade 1 winner Vahva, a 5-year-old daughter of Gun Runner, has been entered in Book 1 of the November Breeding Stock Sale scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4—she will be the first Grade 1-winning daughter of Gun Runner to be offered at public auction.  The Lane Report
  • Valvoline Global has enlisted children, including artist Penelope Macaluso, to design a new paint scheme for its NASCAR Cup car to support Blood Cancer United—aiming to boost efforts for pediatric blood cancer treatment. The redesigned car will be showcased at the Charlotte ROVAL race on Oct. 5 at 3 p.m.  LEX 18
