  • A Georgetown couple is celebrating as their quadruplet boys turn one this month—each boy shows a unique personality—and the Lawsons manage everyday challenges like bulk buying milk while enjoying every moment.  LEX 18
  • Sandersville Elementary fifth grader Jillian Sensabaugh was named the Lexington Fire Department's junior fire chief to promote fire safety during Fire Prevention Week and will visit fire stations, local businesses, and government meetings—she earned the honor with a creative essay and poster amid over 100 student entries.  Fayette County Public Schools
  • Transylvania University students have painted purple pumpkins that are now placed across Lexington by local businesses and government offices to raise domestic violence awareness; each pumpkin features a QR code linking to support resources + the project began in 2019 and now includes over 150 pumpkins during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  LEX 18

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Natural State Green Grass Canna Co. will open a cannabis facility in Richmond Industrial Park that will grow, cultivate and process cannabis and create about 45 jobs. City officials say a ceremony will be held Friday and the facility will add revenue through real estate and payroll taxes—while state law still allows only medicinal use.  WKYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lexington was named one of Condé Nast Traveler’s Best Small Cities in the U.S. for the second straight year, VisitLEX said—based on over 757000 survey responses about travel. The honor shows the city’s strong appeal as a travel destination that mixes Southern charm and rich history.  The Lane Report

EDUCATION NEWS

  • David B. Ratterman—an attorney with Stites & Harbison and a local figure—was inducted into the 2025 UK Hall of Distinguished Alumni as one of 20 honorees. The award recognizes his long work in law and construction and his support for education.  The Lane Report

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Lexington lawmaker has proposed new legislation to ban school districts from using taxpayer money to hire lobbyists—targeting Fayette County Public Schools after an investigation found a $38,000 lobbying contract during a $16 million budget shortfall. Representative Vanessa Grossl said she will file the bill in the next legislative session to promote fairness across districts.  WKYT
  • City officials announced an improved snow response plan today after a severe January storm left many Lexington streets slick and forced schools to close. The new plan adds extra dump trucks and road crews — improvements meant to clear streets faster — and its details will be posted on the city's website on October 31.  LEX 18
  • Four Kentucky veterans were chosen to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery during an Honor Flight—an honor given to those with a Purple Heart or Medal of Valor. Their participation honored a tradition that respects service members whose remains are still unaccounted for.  LEX 18
  • Bourbon County joined Kentucky's High Five program after ranking 14th in fatalities and serious injuries to help drivers buckle up. Local law enforcement received $10,000 each to continue the effort—improving seatbelt use from the high 70% range to nearly 90% in just two years.  WKYT
