- ➤ A recent Feeding America study shows that nearly 280,000 people in Central and Eastern Kentucky faced food insecurity—with one in four children affected and rural areas seeing rates 10% higher—based on 2023 data. The CEO of God's Pantry Food Bank urged Congress to address the stalled Farm Bill and called on the state to strengthen its Farms to Food Banks Program as a 53-million-meal gap persists annually. - ➤ RD1 Spirits opened its new distillery May 14 in The Commons near downtown Lexington with a research lab, bourbon bar, speakeasy and gift shop as part of a $5 million project. The company held a soft opening and ribbon cutting on May 13 and now sells 250 bottles of 12-year aged Single Barrel bourbon—honoring Lexington’s legacy of bourbon firsts. The Lane Report

- ➤ A new data dashboard from the Sierra Club shows that if EPA loosens pollution rules, more Kentuckians will face harmful air+water pollution that can lead to higher rates of asthma and cancer. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Coleman announced that a federal court dismissed a challenge to Kentucky House Bill 11—a vape law that lets only approved vendors sell vapor products and bans sales to those under 21. The law passed in April 2024 and went into effect Jan. 1, and state officials plan to uphold its measures to protect public health. LEX 18
- ➤ Yesterday, developers shared plans for a 127,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace and apartment complex near Frederick Douglass High School, and more than 100 neighbors expressed concerns about traffic, light pollution, and pedestrian safety along Winchester Road — a traffic study is planned and a public hearing on the zone change is set for June 26 at the government center.
